Follow the Signs

The readers in room 302 were busy following sign posts today as they read picture books with a partner. They learned that just like it is important for drivers to follow signs while they are driving, it is also important for readers to follow signs while they are reading. Students were introduced to the signpost of contrasts and contradictions. When we are reading and we notice a character does or says something unexpected or surprising that is "out of character," we stop and ask, "Why would the character act this way?"
