We celebrated children's author Tomie dePaola's birthday today by reading The Art Lesson. We compared and contrasted the main characters in The Art Lesson to those in The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We also read chapter 8 of Things Will Never Be The Same, dePaola's memoir which tells the same story as The Art Lesson. Tomie dePaola has written and/or illustrated more than 200 books for children and has received numerous awards for his books. Many of his books are autobiographical or based on his childhood experiences.
